Kota Kinabalu Trip

One of the plus being a teacher is that you get long holiday at the end of the year. I went to KK in December together with 2 of my friends. I was thankful to be able to sleep over at my friend’s former colleague’s house the first 2 nights. It saved our hotel costs, thus letting us be able to spend more on our shopping ,haha :P

I enjoyed the seafood there, and was really impressed with the shopping complexes in the city. I’d only been to 2 seafood restaurants, one of them was Salut seafood. It was kinda far from town, and definitely hard to find without guides. One of the dishes we ordered was snail, I forgot to ask what it’s called. You use a toothpick to pull the snail out of it shell.

I also enjoyed the famous fish ball noodles, bak kut teh and Beaufort Mee. They have kolo mee as well but it resembles west msia’s wantan mee.

I didn’t have the chance to go to all the shopping complexes in this trip. Of course, I couldn’t miss out the new One Borneo. They had beautiful Christmas deco that even my friend, who just went to Singapore, said that it looked better. Tons of people were there and they even had pony ride in front of the entrance. They have this Japanese shop, Daiso on the top floor, not to be missed. Everything goes for RM 5 each, a real bargain indeed XD.

We took a trip to Kundasang and it was really cool up there. You can see the beautiful sight of Mount Kinabalu and even shop at the wet market for fruits and veggies on the way up there.

I love the waterfront in the city, and the clear, clean sea, compared to Kuching’s :(

Hope I can come back for another memorable trip in the not too distance future :P

Scam Call

I nearly fall prey to a scam call recently. I should have detected it was a scam from the start since the callers were obviously not local. However, in my moment of panic, I couldn’t think straight and went on to provide my full information for them, a totally idiotic move I must say. There were 3 callers altogether. The first one was acting as the court’s operator, calling to inform me that I missed my first court hearing and that they have rescheduled it for the next coming Monday. Of course, hearing this, I was as much surprised as I was in fear. Knowing that I did not break any law, I demanded for an explaination, to which the ‘operator’ told me to hang up and wait for the ‘inspector’, the person-in-charge of the case, to call me. My phone rang again in less than a minute, and this time, a male caller was on the line. He promptly went on the describe the case, and said that I might be a victim of a money laundering group based in Johor. I had the choice of cooperating with them via the phone, and be released from attending this so-called court hearing in Bukit Aman. So stupidly, I went along with the questioning. They asked for my personal details as well as bank details. At that point, I was kinda thankful I was broke >.<   Not that it stopped them from trying to get what little I had in my bank account because next, it was the 'public prosecutor's' turn to call me. She was talking in a mechanical tone, as if repeating from a book. It was so obvious, thinking back now...'doh!' Her questions were roughly the same as the 'inspector', only that she said she would 'record' the phone call, and I heard a beep through the phone. I even made her repeated a few times, and before the questions finished, another beep came up. Again, I was still in a state of shock, and it didn't make me think twice. However, it came to the part where she wanted me to go out to do a mission, to transfer all my money in my account to this guy solely appointed as my 'supervisor', who would then have it transfer to the Ministry of Finance to determine that it's legal. Ok, so I was a fool so far, but I was not stupid enough to fall for that. At this point, I raised my tone, and argued with her. I demanded for a record and threatened to go to the police to complain about this. I was also lucky to see that my sister was online and told her about it. From a third party's view, who's much more calmer than I was, she told me I was a fool for not seeing it as a scam much earlier. Thinking back now, it really pissed me off and I'll be damned if I receive another call with that frigging accent. At one point, the gal even turned and told someone in mandarin about me threatening to go to the police. They did go through a lot to prepare for these kinda calls, and who knows what sh*t they might come up with next. So beware all!! >:(

Women’s Hair Loss

I haven’t had the mood to write in my blog ever since I started suffering from massive hair loss a month ago. It was a really depressing time I had to go through, seeing a handful of hair on the floor every morning. Well, it’s definitely not as bad as going through chemotherapy, but whereas others would usually shed 50-200 hairs per day, I think I lost more than twice the amount. I have yet to fully recover from it but there had been improvement lately. My hair loss is most probably due to my thyroid condition although I couldn’t be 100% sure. Not even the doctors and specialist I went to could give me the answer I was seeking for. The only way was for my body to readjust and recover itself. It was probably one of the loneliest time I had to go through and I’d searched countless sites for information. There’re two sites that I would recommend to those who are going through the same problem. Women’s Hair Loss Project and Balding Blog, the later one is for both sexes.

A friend of mine just emailed me these riddles and I thought I’ll share it here. I dunno who wrote it but if anyone does, let me know so I can give him/her credit for it :D Here we go!

THESE ARE FIVE GOOD RIDDLES

RIDDLE NO 5 IS AMAZING

ENJOY

THIS SHARPENS THOSE GENES IN YOUR BRAIN

1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three
rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of
assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven’t
eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?

2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5
minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out
together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?

3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you
throw it away ?

4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words
Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?

5. This is an unusual paragraph. I’m curious as to just how quickly you
can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain
that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is
wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about
it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a
bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!

That one was easy, right?

3. Charcoal, as it is used in barbecuing.

4. Sure you can name three consecutive days, yesterday, today, and
tomorrow!

5. The letter E, which is the most common letter used in the English
language, does not appear even once in the paragraph.

Counterfeit RM100 notes

Never thought anyone I know would fall prey to this but but mum shocked me this morning by saying one of her friends paid her for some goods with a fake one. I immediately asked to see the note. It was pretty easy to tell from the start as the paper seemed inferior to the original one. A friend of mine told me that all the parts of the note are nearly 99% foolproof except for the silver line behind the note. If you ever notice that it seemed faded, please be aware that it’s fake. The original note’s line cannot be scratched or faded. Here’s a look at the difference between the real and counterfeit note.
